Shares in Bradstock rising: another M45 javelin record
Roald Bradstock, 45, is closing in on an Olympic Trials qualifier in the javelin. A world record helps. On Saturday, at the Florida Athletic Club Classic in Clermont, he threw 71.75 (235-5) (not 71.80 as first reported) on his first attempt to surpass his own M45 American record of 68.80 (225-9) set two weeks earlier. The latest throw is now a YouTube video. Roald’s latest throw beats the listed M45 world record of 70.96 (232-10) by Finland’s Jorma Markus in 2002.
Roald’s friend Jeff Gorski writes on a discussion board:
He said the crossing wind cost everyone a metre or two today. Most amazing thing is that throw probably qualified him for his 8th Olympic Trials next year!
With a projected field of 24 athletes and a “B” standard of 70m, I’d say he’s got a fine chance with this throw today: 2006 season had 70.62 as 24th best in US. And he’s still got a year to improve on that.
On Sunday, another writer posted this:
A very nice series yesterday. Roald broke the old American record with all six of his throws & the new record he created two weeks ago with 5 of the throws. The wind was tricky, there were gusts of at least 20 MPH which threw off most of the throwers. We decided to have a celebration drink after the meet but Roald got lost on the way to the bar!! He was last seen circling the parking area looking for us. His old coach drove after him in a vain attempt to catch up but he had disappeared by then. Oh well, next time Roald!
