Shore AC women’s relay missing from Millrose Games

A spot was empty in the women’s 4×4 at tonight’s 100th Millrose Games. New Jersey’s Shore Athletic Club was, as promised, not allowed to compete. Results show the winners as Athena Track Club. The Nike Central Park Track Club, which included Mary Rosado, the coordinator of the masters events at this meet, took third, but the men’s team from Central Park TC won in 3:35.86. That’s a great time for the tight turns of the 160-yard board track at Madison Square Garden. The listed American men’s 4×4 indoor record remains 3:33.3 by the NY Pioneer Club in 1980.

World champ Ed Gonera of the New York-based Sprint Force America club sent along further details on M40 masters indoor records:
“11-Lap American Indoor and Millrose Record is 3:34.94 (by) Sprint Force America (at) Millrose 2002. American Club 4×400 Indoor Record (is) 3:31.04 (by) Sprint Force America (at) USATF Indoor Champ. 2000.”

Well it looks like everything worked out just PERFECTLY…that terrible “ALL STAR” Shore AC team was “red flagged” by the vigilant Mary Rosado and did NOT get to run in the 100th Annual Millrose Games. We really have to be thankfull for such a job well done…i do hope the “administrators” are taking note of ALL Marys hard work for we athletes. So Louise Clark making a valiant comeback after cancer is denied a chance to run..and the team she was going to run for is labeled “ALL STARS”and consequently dismissed…great job masters track and field…this is a proud day for all of us. I hope Mary wears her hard earned 3rd place medal PROUDLY…she is a TRUE representative of MANY Masters athletes..a quick word to Edward Gonera as well…golly Ed dont you rememeber MR Mundle never gave his blessing on OUR club World Record set at the Nationals….it had been ratified as a World indoor record (after a few years of fighting and finally threathening legal action) BUT never recognized by MR Mundle as a club record even thought he had all paperwork and everything was in “order”.A record is not set by RUNNING it is set by WHO YOU KNOW and how they might feel about you at the time. Also the record setting ratification is considerably more “smooth” when one is a member of an “approved” team with “approved” athletes..how does one determine that status?? rather easily the “approved” teams get instant ratification.I have one case where a race was run in september and the record was OFFICIALLY ratified the following december..thats 2 months..wow now thats FAST!!! This is OUR reality…this is masters track and field…its easy to see why we are growing at such an incredible rate…

Congratulations masters athletes who participated. And especially to Athena ladies and Central Park TC men.
Let’s hope masters will be able to participate at Milrose next year.

Without naming people or places, I just want to say that many feel the same frustration as Francis, including me, and I truly hope that something from this mess can be used to fix the inherent problems. Until that happens, it is going to continue to be difficult to gain popularity and grow.
As far as the relays who did compete, I hope they feel good about their accomplishments, but think how great it could have been.

“As far as the relays who did compete, I hope they feel good about their accomplishments, but think how great it could have been.”
I think this, like many of the comments around this event, seem to be too focused on one team in the ladies race. It’s unfortunate that Shore did not participate but how much did it diminish the achievements of the other teams?
The men’s race was highly competitive with six teams. The women’s race had five entrants and was won comfortably by Athena.
Hopefully Shore AC will take advantage of opportunities to compete at the National Indoor & Outdoor Masters champs, and Penn Relays.
