Shuttle bus from Seattle to Kamloops in the works for worlds

Robert Thomas, the M40 world 400-meter champ at Lahti, has found a way to save big money on Kamloops travel: Find a flight to Seattle and hop a
chartered shuttle bus! Robert writes: “I took the liberty of contacting
a charter bus company to
see what it would cost from Seattle to Kamloops (site of 2010 indoor worlds).  We can get a
55-passenger bus from Saturday, (February) 27, and returning on Sunday,
March 7,
for $120.00 per person.  For every person below that 55, it would add
about $2.50 per person.” Anyone interested can contact Robert and let him know their travel plans. You’re also welcome to post on our travel/lodging forum if you want to share a ride.

Robert continues:

If there were enough people (who) wanted to come
in at a later date, I’m sure I could organize a second bus. But for
anyone that competes on Monday or maybe even Tuesday I would suggest
getting in on Saturday evening just to get checked in and familiar with
the area.

At this present time, the bus is scheduled to leave at 2 p.m. Saturday the 27th and leave Kamloops at 6 a.m. on Sunday the 7th.
So for those that want to use the shuttle, they need to plan on arriving
in Seattle no later than noon  Saturday just to give themselves a
little extra time in case their flight is running late, as well as
don’t plan on catching a flight out of Seattle before noon  Sunday
the 7th. . . .

Also I took the liberty of checking on the difference in the prices of
flights into Kamloops compared to Seattle.  Flying into Seattle and
taking the shuttle bus plus hotel is almost as cheap as the flight into
Kamloops by itself.

The following are some examples of the flights at
today’s rates.  There is the ability for some flexibility on the
departure times, but I don’t want people trying to book 6 a.m. flights
on Sunday if possible just because I would like to avoid a bus ride in
the middle of the night in the winter.

Robert, please give us your e-mail or tel. No.
Jerry and I are very interested in the bus situation from Seattle to Kamloops.
this way, he could take a vaulting pole, about 11 feet, on the bus.
    Thanks,
    Christel
Will you be at the convention?

Other option for SFO travelers would be a $475 RT flight to Vancouver and a bus. You can get it for as cheap as $25 each way with 21 day advanced purchase on Greyhound from Vancouver to Kamloops
They have at least 6 departures or so a day.

as a side note, there is always Quickshuttle
http://www.quickcoach.com/ that goes from SEATAC to Vancouver (not Kamloops).
Also Allegiant Air flies from Bellingham, which is a 10 minute ride from the border.
It’s not door to door, but nice to know your options if you plan on being in Vancouver.
ALSO, POLE VAULTERS WILL HAVE A HARD TIME FLYING INTO KAMLOOPS AS THE SMALLER PLANES CANNOT HOLD 16 FOOT POLES. Check with your airlines if you have a stopover in YVR!!!

interesting information – thanks all – I had just about written off Kamloops partly due to the price of airfare from the east coast and also because of the absurd scheduling that would have me hanging around for days between the events I would like to run and then having to run 2 events on each of those two days. The bus option sounds interesting – and maybe maybe maybe – I will go . I am likely to decide pretty much at the last possible moment.

FYI – Just booked roundtrip on Alaska Air from San Jose to Seattle, leaving February 27th and returning on March 7th for $141 round trip. I had been checking for a few weeks and it dropped from $235.

    Good Evening All.
The shuttle bus from SEA seems like a good alternative for a drive in both directions – Good work Robert. It is quite difficult to avoid some of the portions at night however due to the arrival of most flights from the south-east especially.
Some great points noted here on Kamloops however. I’d like to share some more good news. As of Monday 26th October, you’ll be able to take advantage of special WMA Indoor airfares that I’ve negotiated for travel to Kamloops out of the US, Canada and International destinations.
I’m the Sports Group Travel Manager for Vision2000 Travel here in Vancouver (as well as some other modest accomplishments in Masters track; some of you may know!). Discounts range from 10 thru 15 percent off most fares, with the added ability to travel pre or post the competition!.
It’s actually better to travel to Calgary in some cases (an 8 hour drive) because we have a motorcoach transfer from the airport right into Kamloops. This helps because traveling in and out of Vancouver has limited seat availability on most flights due to the Winter Olympics wrapping up around the same time!
There is also service into Kelowna (approximately 2 hours driving distance), and we have seat blocks from 27 and 28 February returning on 7th and 8th March. For passengers traveling from Europe, Central America, the UK and South America, there are also discounts available too, with service into all gateways around Kamloops (Vancouver, Calgary and Kelowna) and also to Seattle. There is also a motorcoach service (similar to what Robert has arranged above) from Seattle to the meet directly, with times TBA.
With all fares, you may extend them to immediate family members and friends.
To request your flights, send me an email directly to dprovo@vision2000travel.ca and I will send you our request form. Once we receive your request; we’ll call you to arrange your flights based on either your first or second choices. We will quote you fares based on availability so time is of the essence. Turnaround time for requests are 24 hours/7 days a week. If we receive your request after 1900 PST, then it may not get actioned immediately the next day, but will do so the day after.
Hopefully, this service will encourage lots of Master athletes to visit us here in Canada for the Indoors. Unfortunately, it’s always so expensive to travel to meets to compete, and the airlines or online booking services are not the easiest to work with. I am personally hoping that this will be a good experience for everyone.
    See you trackside in Kamloops!

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for your posting on masterstrack – my email program keeps refusing to send to your address. So if you read this, can you send me a request form? I’m flying from Denver to Kelowna, and hiring a car there. Anyone else going that route – I’m probably flying from Denver on Feb 25 or 26.
    Simon.
