SoCal Assn. Masters Championship records online
What do Parry O’Brien, Johnnye Valien and Willie Gault have in common? Or Larry Stuart, Christel Donley and Peter Mundle? Besides being Southern California masters legends, they all hold SoCal USATF Association Masters Championship records. We know this because M45 hurdler Jeff Davison spent months collecting and collating meet records going back to 1977. Check out Jeff’s milestone work of masters history.
Jeff performed the same statistical feat — going back to 1976 — for the USATF Western Regional Masters Championships. See that compilation here. The West Regional records include such stars as former elites Lee Evans, Milan Tiff, Doug Nordquist, Willie Banks and James King. Longevity legends Harold Chapson, Paul Spangler and Gerry Davidson are here, too.
This work should be a model for USATF associations and regions nationwide.
This begs the question: Does any other USATF association or region have a stronger set of records than SoCal and the Western Region?
Prove it by compiling (and posting) your own records list!

First I would like to cogratulate Jeff on a job well done. There are a few other people that contributed to the overall effort that need to thanked as well Andy Hecker,Mark Cleary,Suzi Hess,Randy Sturgeon and David Paine.Jeff spent the lions share of time on this but I wanted the other people who made significant contributions to the effort to at least be mentioned.Having meet records for all the Association and Region Championships is something that has been talked about at the Annual Convention for the last 3 or 4 years and this year I was able to find a willing soul to take on the project that had gone far too long without pursuit let alone completion–Outstanding work Jeff–it’s a great gift to the Masters Community.
The Northwest Region has regional meet records going back to 1983. They were published in the 2006 Hayward Classic program and are available online:

Neener, neener. But seriously, it is great to see these records online. It inspires athletes to aim high. Way to go, SoCal / Western.
