Southern Assn. USATF masters meet changes venues to LSU

Coach Byron Turner of the USATF Southern Association writes that “this weekend’s South Region/Southern Association Masters Championships has been moved from Southern University to the Bernie Moore Track Stadium at LSU.” He adds that online entry will be extended through Wednesday. Byron also writes: “To accommodate the LSU track team’s practice schedule, we were required to move the running event schedule to a 2 p.m. start. Field events will retain their 9 a.m. start. Please make your preparations accordingly. We apologize for the late change and any inconvience this may cause, but due to logistical issues at Southern University, we had no choice but to move the meet.”  Another problem is that the individual online entry page is a dead link. (Coach Turner says he’s aware of it and has sent a note to USATF to fix it.)

Looks like Oregon & the NW Association Champs are towards the late end of champs. Last year, the Oregon Assn Champs were in August, the weekend prior to Nats which was tough. Many of us still attended due it being at the Hayward Classic.
This year, they’re being held simultaneously at the Portland Masters which works well being 2 weeks before so a good final tune-up for Nats.
Crazy how early some of the meets are. I’m guessing weather and/or facility availability are the driving forces?

MJ- good points. I think the main driving force for the early scheduling may very well be the earier-than-usual scheduling of the USATF Masters Nationals, which for the last few years (at least)have been held in August. That change, plus the late confirmation of the meet’s dates/venue wreaked havoc on those of us trying to plan local and/or regional meets. At least the USATF Nationals do not conflict with the National Senior Games in CA- that was a problem in So Cal for the USATF Western Regionals this year.

Correction- the SCAUSATF Champs (not Western Regional) conflicted with the CA State (not National) Senior Games in Pasadena. Sorry for theerror.

New info just sent by Coach T:
    All Members:
Due to the change of venue and the technical difficulties with the online registration system, this Saturday’s South Region/Southern Masters Championships will be allowing on-site meet entry. Please bring your USATF ID cards and proof of age to check-in. Late registration fees will also be waived.
This meet is a part of the USATF National Club Championships Series. Meet management reserves the right to create separate heats to accommodate scoring when necessary. This applies to the Open Division only, not Masters.
