Spokane to boast 44 recent world champions (at least)

I don’t have anything against vaulters, honest. Some of my best friends are vaultish. But while preparing lists of world champions from Clermont-Ferrand and Riccione entered at Spokane nationals, I overlooked three stick-jumpers: M40 Trevor Richards, M80 Bud Held and W65 Nadine O’Connor. All took gold in Italy. My apologies. I’ve updated the USATF Masters Media Committee press release to reflect this. Click here for the updated release. (FYI: Among the 23 indoor and 21 outdoor world champs, there is some overlap. But the total sounds better than excluding the double-dippers.)

Nice write-up on Carol Finsrud, but you forgot her on the Riccione WC list. Gold in discus, hammer, and wieght throw. Silver in shot put.

Yet another oversight: I left off Don Drummond, M35 champ in the 110 hurdles at Riccione.
Bring your wet noodles to Spokane! I’m entirely to blame for rushed research.
Next time I do this, I will have a complete list of gold medalists in front of me, rather than do Google searches and blog searches.
    My apologies (again).

Ken- no apologies necessary. Thanks for the great info, and if people have complaints about what you’ve done, perhaps they should do it instead 🙂

Yeah, no apologies needed. You do great work with the site and honestly, I’d much rather have you continue to give info that applies to all of us.
As far as how many former champions are there, etc., I couldn’t care less.

I agree – no apologies necessary. But you seemed so intent on not leaving anyone out I thought I would point out the one I knew about.
Thanks for the great job you do.
