Stan Perkins updates us on his new gig, corrects post
Looks as if WMA prez hopeful Stan Perkins has a new job, which doesn’t carry the bylaws-violation baggage of his previous gig with Gold Coast Events Management, which runs the Pan Pacific Masters Games (a rival to WMA events). Perkins writes: “Well you have done it again – foot in mouth disease! I have been forwarded your brief statement advising that I worked on Masters Games and that this was banned under WMA rules etcetera.”
Perkins continues:
“Sorry but you are way off the mark. Ken I have not worked on Masters Games since 2002! I left that employment and went to work for Athletics Australia as the National Development Manager. In February 2004 I resigned from that position and have since then worked for myself in property management.
“As for running Masters Games in direct competition to WMA meets, that has never been the case. My first priority has always been to WMA and its activities. My first love has always been athletics. I still turn up every competition day in Brisbane and help carry the equipment out and set up the competition arena.
“I then officiate wherever I am needed and then pack up all the equipment again and put it away. I do any task that is needed to be done and am always at the forefront to assist. I do that because I enjoy it and moreso because I love the people who participate in our sport. I do the same at the Oceania regionals and for the 2005 National Masters Track and Field Championships that will be held in Brisbane in a few weeks I am the chairman of the organising committee.
“When the event starts I am to be the announcer. I will probably still be setting up tents and putting out equipment before the events start. I have a very down to earth attitude to our sport and do not mind getting my hands dirty to ensure that the competitors get the best quality event that is possible. I have done this for over 20 years.
“Ken if you want to make statements please check their accuracy first. You have my email address and you can always ring me if you wish. I have absolutely nothing to hide and am quite willing to discuss any issue in our sport with you, provided I have the necessary qualification by you as to how the information is to be used and by whom.
“It would be appreciated if you would correct the erroneous information you have broadcast.”
Consider it done, Stan.
