Time for booking travel to Hawaii nationals
Snow is on the ground in many places, but today I booked a flight for a sweltering place in the middle of the Pacific — Honolulu and the 2005 USATF national masters outdoor championships in August. I checked six online travel sites, and two or three gave me a fair deal.
Consumer Reports this month recommended kayak.com, sidestep.com and and mobissimo.com in this article.
Via Kayak.com I found a roundtrip flight out of San Diego, near my home, for $580 — or $37 less than the fares quoted on the Big Three sites: travelocity.com, expedia.com and orbitx.com.
(However, I found xanax online myself charged an extra $10 for “travel insurance” — supposedly to make the fare refundable in case I can’t make the trip. Oh well. Whatever.)
Anyhoo, $590 isn’t peanuts. But short of a fare war, I don’t expect to see much better prices. So at least I’ve put this chore in the rearview mirror.
Next up: accommodations. Dorm rooms (without air conditioning) may be available at the meet site, the University of Hawaii, according to the Travel area of the nationals Web site.
I’ll report back on what they say, too.
