Two meets offered to qualify for Millrose masters relays
Mary Rosado passes along a note on how teams can get potential qualifying times for the masters relays (4x4s for men and women) at the Millrose Games in February. She says that the MAC and Long Island associations are having relay races — both Dec. 30 — for teams seeking times.
The Long Island USATF site has this blurb:
“URGENT NOTICE–there is going to be a 4 x 400m Masters Relay for Men and Women at the 99th running of the Millrose Track Meet at MSG on Feb 3, 2006. The qualifying meet for all Long Island Club Teams who wish to participate in the Millrose Games will be at the Dec 30th track and field meet at SCCC.”
The Metropolitan (formerly MAC) USATF association will host its Holiday Classic for open and masters athletes at the New Balance T&F Center (Armory track) in New York City.
Our own Web site offers basic info on other indoor meets in the Eastern USA, including ones in Boston, Rochester and Hanover, N.H. (Why should Nu Yawkahs have all the fun?)
The reported deadline for getting entries in is Jan. 9.
Rosado also writes to clarify how teams can become eligible for the Millrose relays, saying: “I am hearing that people are confused about the rules. 1. There are no all-star teams. Every athlete has to be member of same USATF or Association club; and 2. The qualifying time is that of 4x400m relay race; NOT individual open 400m and adding times up.”

From Mary Rosado’s clarifying instructions, it appears that the 4-person club team(s) must each qualify en bloc as a team, i.e., run the relay trial on December 30th. But what if a club has, say, two masters women’s teams that qualify. Can they select four athletes amongst themselves and send a single team to Millrose? Or are they locked into the team configurations from the relay trials?
I’m sorry even to ask the question, since the situation may not even come up. But I suspect this has been a point of confusion.
I believe the Potomac Valley Track Club also has a 4x400m relay scheduled for their meet on Jan. 8th. That’s cutting it close to the deadline though. The Millrose people need to get the word out earlier next year.
Cool, there are actually some worthwhile points on here some of my subscribers may find this useful, will send a link, thanks.
