USA roster for San Sebastian online at USATF

USATF has disclosed the American roster for the WMA world masters meet in San Sebastian, conveniently listing athletes by event and alphabetically. This avoids the biennial battle over releasing the names in advance of the meet, and makes it possible for hometown media (and friends and relatives) to track the progress of local athletes.

USA team manager Phil Greenwald, who shared the link, also writes: “There is a link to the Spain website as well as the USA lists that I downloaded from the Spain registration system. Note that the Spain list is as of June 10, so there are a few late US entries that are not in that list.â€
The oldest U.S. entrant is 91-year-old Max Springer of Knoxville, Tennessee, who has been to many of these world meets (and won many medals).
His events this summer:
M90 Springer, Max Knoxville, TN 1500m 10:13.00
M90 Springer, Max Knoxville, TN 200m 48.28
M90 Springer, Max Knoxville, TN 400m 1:53.00
M90 Springer, Max Knoxville, TN 800m 4:44.00
M90 Springer, Max Knoxville, TN Long Jump 3.15
M90 Springer, Max Knoxville, TN Triple Jump 4.89
The oldest woman on the U.S. team is 87-year-old Fan Benno-Caris of Addison, Texas, competing in the track and road racewalks.
This year, for the first time in World Masters Athletics, men as young as 35 may compete (in the M35 age group, of course). The previous entry age was 40. Women have been able to compete in masters at age 35 for decades.
As the meet draws closer, I’ll try to take a look at the most dramatic matchups.
