USATF drags feet on posting Throws Championships info
George Mathews is fit to be tied. Although he’s the world-record holder in the M65 weight throw, George can’t seem to budge USATF’s Andy Martin on getting entry information online for the USATF Masters Throws Championships, set August 22-23, 2009, at Mac Wilkins’ world-class throws center in Portland, Oregon. A former national masters chairman, George knows where the bodies are buried in Indy, but hasn’t been able to find USATF’s brain. Since USATF can’t seem to get its act together, I’ve posted this official entry form on George’s behalf. And here is some motel information. What’s the hangup? Since early March, George has been exchanging email with Andy, who has nitpicked George’s entry form to death. Here are some highlights of George’s responses to Andy’s queries and suggestions.
On March 6, George wrote:
Andy, You don’t have my notations about the superweight 3 throws, if part of the pent $10 etc. If your system can’t do it maybe we need to use athleticsdirect or paper only. I don’t think we should change we want to do to fit your system. How dare you decide to change the “banquet” on Saturday to a lunch buffet on Sunday. If you guys want run the meet by all means take it over. This job is difficult enough without going through this hassle.
On April 21, George wrote:
Andy, I would have thought that this would have been posted by now. People are making plans. I need your help. George
And on May 6, George wrote:
Andy, this goes back to March 9. With this kind of service I don’t think Masters Track & Field needs USATF. We belong with the National Senior Games. With the money we contribute we deserve better than this.
I also wrote Andy yesterday, asking what the holdup is. He never replied, but he did make sure the entry information page (see below) was taken offline. But all he did was hide the link. He didn’t zap the page itself. Check out this embarrassing page (note the yellow phrases, where links are supposed to go).
And just in case that version of the page is zapped, here’s how it looked on May 6:
