USATF posts entry information for 2008 indoor worlds

Deep in the bowels of the USATF Web site is information on how to enter the 2008 World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Clermont, France. Cool. You also get to fill out an entry form good for speakers of English, French and German. Riccione team manager Phil Greenwald apparently will reprise that role in France, since’s he’s listed as the contact honcho. We also learn the key deadlines: “The on-time entry deadline for submitting entries is January 4, 2008. All entry forms must be received by the USA Track & Field national office by this date to be considered on-time and not incur the late fee.The late entry deadline is January 25, 2008 . . . . Absolutely no entries will be accepted after January 25!” OK, got that!

and one has to have the 2008 USATF membership number too – so don’t dilly dally about getting that.
It takes two pages for the silly pledge that sounds like the new USATF lawyer has been hard at work making sure we do not cover up the Nike logo on the compulsory uniform top and releasing and waiving all rights to everything and anything yada yada yada and the best part is swearing that I am of legal age and competent! Well some days there are those who might challenge my competency! And goodness I am getting carded by USATF! It has been awhile since I had to prove my age for anything other than a senior citizen discount Charlie Card for the MBTA in Boston.
The oath is far longer and more complex than any useful information on the site about the WMA meet.
Busy bees in Indianapolis nice to see our annual dues money at work.

If you are planning on using the “official” housing providers, the deadline is the 16th of November. I’m still trying to reach the company in charge since they did not provide adequate payment information in their email correspondence (all in French). Not very user friendly. Riccione was much easier to deal with.

I think that those of us planning on going to Clermont-Ferrand better start hitting the French lessons – take along a French -English dictionary and a ton of patience. As for housing – try Booking.Com (I have no affiliation with them) – I booked my housing through them – and if the deadline is Nov 16 for the LOC official travel agency – perhaps by Jan 1st some of the blocked hotel rooms will be available through either the hotel websites or an online travel site. Right now most hotels are “blocked” ie show up as not available – but I will be surprised if enough competitors turn up that every hotel in the city will be filled. It is not tourist season, it is an industrial city and has a university. There are many hotels – and there are bound to be rooms available. Using the official housing provider would be my last choice.

Just curious (not planning to go) – what is the difference between an “authentic” uniform and a “replica” uniform?

Anybody know anything about elevation above sea level of this place and any one have any experience racing (middle distance) at or near it??

To KimW: Both are hopelessly old and outdated. Should both be called ‘antique’. To TonyP:Hi Tony, it’s about 1000 to 2000 ft, depending where you are in the city. It’s surrounded by a string of dormant volcanoes. Way before Christianity, my ancestors would travel down there to visit a sacred forest. I don’t know if they ran their middle distance races naked since the weather is mild most of the year. Nah, you will wear the antique uniforms. Seriously, there will be excellent conditions for middle distance runners.

Hi everyone and happy holidays to all ,also speedy healing for mr stone,my you come back stronger than ever in your efforts to recover from your knee operation, speaking of efforts there was nothing comical about me winning my third straight world title in the 110 hurdles ,also the thought of me trying to aviod as mr mcloud clarified any wma protocol,i did not get upset because i knew all the time i have always follwed the rules and would never tarnish usa track and feild and what mr masback and the people of usa track have bulit in the sport i love.the truth of the matter is i admit to the competion i ran the worlds in riccione with a hernia on my left side but did my best to put it out of my mind and just run, but i came to the worlds to run and to win and regret any false stories of people that are simple minded and wish the had the world championship i won and the world record i still have ,i plan to attend the indoor worlds as a m-45-49 a plan to dominate the world records before me and really give it my all because, now these false accusations are unfair when all along i knew i was clean and have always raced clean thats why ive lasted so long ,and win continue to train and prepare but now i feel i really have somthing to prove as the greatest masters hurdler m40 and going up the ranks and for the people who tried to give my hard work a bad name shame on you and i hope you are not a m45 hurler because im healing fine after hernia surgrey,an d preparing for my assult on the indoor and out door world records yea i put it out there and will back it up not to prove to anyone ,because the 13,73 speaks for itself ,but to show that if you work hard and train smart you can push to body as long as you take care of your self. Also in regaurds to my reacting and handling the pain i was in at worlds after winning i have never had a injury a knowing i was running with the hernia i did not want the competion to know i was slighty not at my best, and had been running with a hernia and needed surgery but ran anyway, but its over and now france is the focus and training for the world inddors,p.s i hope i can get a real ice bag if or any one competing needs one not some pop open ice bag at the worlds if some one gets a injury.ps for all you story tellers the truth always comes out but have to admit get your facts staight before you accuse world record holders and world champions there are reputations and many young people that look up to me and what i stand for ,and that is healthy living and running with the gift god gave me. yours truly DAVID ASHFORD W.R 110 HH 3TIMES M40 WORLD CHAMPION.

Hey, happy holidays to everyone, David it was good seeing you at nationals, and your incouraging words about Willie too, keep your training up. you speak words of wisdom, Willie Jones always spoke highly of you from back in the days with Stars n Stripes TC to when ever he hope I would see you at one of the meets he would say to me ” hey court if you see Mr. Ashford out there make sure you tell him willie said whats up” (smile). our last relay willie and I ran together was our first allstar team we ran at the 2005 penn relays 4x400m. 40+up. Willie Jones, my self, Ben James, and Clif Mckenzie. Willie was sick then, and still ran awesome lead off leg. It was a great race between we the allstars and sprint force america that year! You see David, Willie is the reason I run in the masters program to this day, so when ever I run the 400 meters I will always run it in his name because he loved 400 meters. Hopefully I’ll see you at indoor nationals until then peace to you and yours. Courtney Muhammad
