World champions Valle, Prince wins masters exhibitions at USA nats
M40 Eric Prince, whose last exhibition race on the USATF open stage was first in the 200 at the U.S. Olympic Trials, won again Sunday at the USA National Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He clocked 51.59 to win a three-man 400-meter race, with possible challenger Khalid Mulazim listed as not starting. Fellow world champion Lisa Valle, W45, won the masters women’s 3000 in 11:07.76, well ahead of Jill Vollweiler’s 11:30.94. Cleared-to-jog Liz Palmer also notes the effort of “fellow Colorado girl Brandi Bernart” in the women’s open 60. “She didn’t make the finals, but she did run a 7.65! Brandi is 34. The AR for W35 is 7.86. Maybe next year!” Congrats to all. Here’s a video of Eric from the Eugene Trials last summer:

Brandi, this is fabulous. See you in Landover.
Brandi Bernert hasn’t gotten a whole lot slower over the years. In January 1999, running for Colorado State University, Brandi set a still-standing school record of 7.35 seconds for the 60. Here we see that 14 years later she has run a 7.65. Like Christel Donley, I am so glad that Brandi will be in Landover later this month.
Regarding the 3000, I am so happy to see Lisa Valle back in the game after a prolonged absence. Lisa, you were sorely missed. Congratulations to the former Colby College standout Jill Vollweiler for getting second. Both Jill and Lisa will be in Landover.
For the men, congratulations to Eric, Jason, and Marcus. These three speedsters are among 24 entrants in the M40 400 at nationals later this month. Should be a wonderful race in Landover, as Ed Winslow is entered as well, not to mention ……. and ….. (don’t want to leave anyone out).
Congrats to my friend Lisa Valle!! Way to step back into the racing scene with a convincing win. And great job to my team mate, Jill, for her second place finish.
Looks like the men’s race was an exciting one to watch…awesome running by everyone. You make the masters track and field community proud!
Great Race Mr. Prince,
Wish I could have been there…..That track is Fast! I did not quite meet the entry time…only ran 1 easy 400 since racing with you at the trials. That was a blast in Eugene… Just about ready for indoor nationals…
Time to go play.

Mark Cleary,
Thanks for all you do for us old guys….Any idea how long the Mountain intervals should be to train for the 800….Maybe 6 x 1000 3-4mri

Mike, we do 5 x 1,000m for 1500m training- I think on the incline you could get by with 600m repeats x 5 or 6. You could also do 400m repeats on the mountian-all the best to you !
Mark,
Agree, 600m repeats could be a good start for an old sprinter like me.
See you in Maryland,
Sully
