World press beginning to focus on Linz world indoor meet
A British M35 runner got some ink in his local paper, the first of potentially hundreds of stories about masters preparing for the World Masters Indoor Championships in Linz, Austria. America’s 90-plus entrants at Linz are due some publicity, too. But first USATF has to release the roster of Team USA. Thankfully, that information is pending.
Phil Greenwald, U.S. team manager for the world meet, wrote me a few days ago: “I will be making up the spreadsheet this weekend.” And presumably he’ll send me a copy. I told him that I would post only basic information online — not athletes’ home addresses, phone numbers or other private information.
But I hope to post names, events, age groups and hometowns — and encourage USATF to do the same. This way, British middle-distance runners won’t be the only ones getting some recognition.
The Linz world indoor meet already has topped 3,000 entrants, according to World Masters Athletics, so it will easily surpass the turnout for the inaugural World Masters Indoor Championships two years ago in Sindelfingen, Germany.
We’ll post the Team USA roster when we get the info.
