10 masters complete a double deca Down Under
Bendigo, Australia, hosted the IAUM World Double Decathlon Championships over the weekend, and at least 10 masters age-groupers took part. Nine men did 20 events, and W40 Lisako Moriwaki of Japan did 14 (the double heptathlon). The M40 winner (and solo entrant) was Esa Paukku of Finland. Greg Simpson of Australia likewise in M45. But the M50 and M55 groups had three entrants each. The oldest entrant was M60 Rod Dominish of Australia, who did these events: 100, LJ, 200H, SP, 5000, 800, HJ, 400, HT and 3000ST (Day 1) and 110H, DT, 200, PV, 3000, 400H, JT, 1500, TJ and 10K (Day 2). Kudos to all! Now take the rest of the month off.
Last year in Lynchburg, Virginia, Americans Rob Duncanson (M50) and Brant Tolsma (M55) set double-deca records.
The 2006 meet’s overall winner was 32-year-old David Purdon of Bendigo.
