WR man Kevin Morning on the mend for M50 sprints
Former M45 world record holder (at 200) Kevin Morning of Northern California was relatively quiet this season, and didn’t attend the Charlotte nationals in his M50 debut season. Good reason for that. Injury and surgery. He writes: “I did end up having surgery on my left meniscus (August 16) and the mending is slow at age 50. I had the same surgery on my right knee just three years ago, but I don’t remember it healing at slow rate. The doctor says I should make a full recovery, though. My left quadricep is incredibly atrophied at this time, but I hope to bounce back. I did my first jogging today and it felt pretty good.”
Kevin continues:
“As for competition, I would like to compete again but after two surgeries I have to play it smart. I won’t be back unless I can run pain-free and fast.”
I asked him whether he’d had a particular injury or if it was par for the M50 course.
He replied:
“Just normal wear and tear caught up with me. I am holding out hope, of course. Though I had surgery on my right knee three years ago, I have no residual side effects. Perhaps the left knee will heal in the same manner.”
Kevin’s most recent competition was the USATF club championships at Mt. San Antonio College on July 8, 2006.
“I think I tore my knee the afternoon before flying down to Walnut,” he writes. Even so, he ran 11.43 and 23.08 on the injured knee at Mt. SAC.
You stay the course, Kevin. You’ll be back kicking M50 butt in no time.

Kevin,
Hope all is well. You’ve been missed, and I look forward to your comeback. I’m sure it’ll be with a bang.

Hi Kevin,
It was good to see an update on your “issues” and your progress—with God’s help you will be back—know you are both missed and admired.
