Bob Weiner’s letter to Stephanie Hightower: Thanks for caring

Bob Weiner on CNN

Bob Weiner, our masters media/marketing maven, was nominated for the David Pain Distinguished Service Award this year (along with me again). But we both lost to Jim Weed, a deserving gent. Bob got a big consolation prize at the Virginia Beach annual meeting, however. USATF Prez Stephanie Hightower chose Bob for one of five President’s Awards. Monday, he wrote her a thank-you note that said: “The masters community was thrilled because it was a great message for the mission—and overall, people across the convention kept congratulating me then entire time. … You heard my point at the coffee, everyone who came to the convention could have won for all their dedication and action for our sport, so I am very luck that you noticed what I did.â€

Bob’s note to Stephanie continued:

Again thanks so much for being a friend and for caring about our work.

Congratulations on all you are doing.

By the way I noticed the VERY effective way you chaired the Board Meeting post-convention, you’ve really gotten it down on how to move things forward—great work on the Convention, the Board, and keeping it all going in a positive way.

I told Mike McNeese and Willie, didn’t say to you, when the new CEO comes in, feel free to put me in the loop on strategy and an action plan to get him/her all over major TV and press. Would be happy to help—as have done for VIP’s my whole life. I also think you could be a great TV vehicle for the sport and would coordinate and figure that out too to maximize you in the media if you like. So when the new CEO comes in, if you want to invite me to Indy to meet, would be happy to come. Also, some Board members, especially Willie (as well as YOU). We can have a whole game plan to get LOTS of Tv as London approaches — USA Track & Field is the primary Olympic sport… so HUGE opportunity but only if we do what needs to be done to get our USATF leaders on TV and in the press. I’d like to lead or help in that.

Regards,
Bob

Bob is a great lover of Masters Track and Field and the only one involved in Media Marketing to my knowledge.

Whenever we enter a city, the local newspaper and sometimes the local television stations have articles and interviews on Masters athletes because of Bob and he still manages to put on his spikes and compete in the 800 and 1500 meters.

I am proud to call him my friend.

P.S. It’s always been a desire of mine to be the only one to respond to a post and now I’ve got my wish!! I’m da MAN !!!
