American Records to Michelsohn, Peterson at East Regionals
Pat Peterson cannot be stopped — by cancer, injury or Mother Time. At Sunday’s USATF Eastern Regionals Masters Championships, she set W85 American records in the 60 and 200, clocking 14.32 and 54.70. See results here. The 60 mark doesn’t beat any Yank’s listed record, becuz there ain’t any. See W85 records here. At the same meet — held at a high school in Providence, Rhode Island — Marie-Louise Michelsohn utterly destroyed the W70 American record in the 3,000, smashing the 14-minute barrier with her 13:15.88, beating the listed AR of 14:07.09 by the legendary Toshiko d’Elia in 2001. (The listed world age-group record is 12:58.41 by Russia’s Rimma Vasina.)

I am not talented enough to run and smile at the same time.
Pat is such a wonderful competitor to race with and a great role model for us all.
Oh P.S. and it was great fun watching Marie-Louise Michelsohn in the 3000. No one was announcing (miss you PT) and I don’t think too many people were aware she was going for the record.
Neni Lewis and Carl Wallin also got some great throws in this meet, but I haven’t checked to see if they are records. Carl also did the high jump! What a wildman!
It was a very well run meet – and a good facility – although not a banked track for those who care about such things. Thanks to the meet directors for the time and effort put into running this event.
The 3k run had 17 competitors – 10 men and 7 women – a very good turnout for a masters meet.
The lap counting was EXCELLENT! It can be done right even with a good size group and a fairly wide spread of times.
Pat and Marie are amazing athletes and it is an honor to be on the same track with them.
We are proud to have Pat as part of our USATF Adirondack Association, which honored her as our Athlete of the Year. Her record busting summer sweep of 100,200, & 400 events at National Senior Games, USATF National Masters meet and World Masters meet was nothing short of awesome.
Hats off to the New England USATF for running such a great meet. The facility is excelent as was the meet management.
