Irie Hill, Guido Müller are Europe’s picks for World Best Masters

Irie had to lift her thumbs a lot in 2014.

The Eurovets have revealed their nominees for IAAF World Best Masters Athletes of the Year: M75 sprinter/hurdler Guido Müller of Germany and W45 vaulter Irie Hill of UK. Both were selected by the EVAA (now EMA) Council. “In all competitions in pole vault, Irie is superior to the other veterans in W45. At the WMA Indoor Championships in Budapest March 26 she won with the World Record 3.55, 75 centimetres before the second woman,” the Eurovets say. “In the European Veterans Championships in Izmir, August 2014 her victory result was 3.30, a margin with 30 centimetres to the second woman. Irie is regular competitor at European and World championships and she has broken the World Records Indoor and Outdoor six times in 2014. She is an enthusiastic Master Pole Vaulter and with her results had motivate women all over Europe and World.”

Guido is God. Wait, I’ve said that before. OK, Guido is God of Gods.

About Guido (one of my all-time favorites), the Eurovets say:

For the first time in history EVAA Council has elected GUIDO MÜLLER (Germany) for the second time as European Best Master. He is also nominated as World Best Master 2014 by EVAA Council – but the elections will be done during the next days.

What makes Guido Müller that successful in his age group (M 75)?

Here a summary of his performances:

In the WMA Championship Indoors in Budapest, HUN March 2014 he won four gold medals in M75: 60m (8.64), 200m (27.99), 400m (1:11.53) and 60m Hurdles (8.64).
He also participated in the winning German relay teams 4 x 200m (2:00.58, world record).

    ‘ and 60m Hurdles (8.64).”

You might want to verify that hurdle time as listed above. That’s likely the 60m time sans hurdles. 🙂

10.65 was the time of the hurdles. And his Budapest 400 time is a slow one, just to be first. Earlier he ran 63.34 (world record of course).
