Masters jump tonight at National Pole Vault Summit in Reno

The annual National Pole Vault Summit will showcase masters tonight, and several Twitter feeds will cover the Reno event. Becca Gillespy Peter has one (whose Web address I need to confirm), and the event has its own Twitter feed here. So theoretically, folks who read these Tweets can get the results before they are posted. (And Summit organizers are notorious for taking two or three days to put results on the Net.) Here are results from last year’s event. The gent to watch this year is Germany’s Wolfgang Ritte, a world record holder and world champ. Also, set your VCR (or TiVO) to record tonight’s Millrose Games (8 p.m. Eastern, ESPN2), where Willie Gault will hand the kids their lunch in the 60-meter dash. (Check out the NYTimes story.)

I met Wolfie this morning at the opening meeting. Super nice and welcoming guy. Six of the top seven M55 vaulters in the world will be on the same pit. Wolfie, Kirk Bentz, Murray Mead, Steve Hardison, Jeff Kingstad and me. Also with us is M60 WR John Altendorf and M65 WR Joe Johnston. We will all be on the same pit at 5:30. How’s that for a big group? Bubba

I was alitte dissapointed when Read willie will not be running hurdles because of a injury, I was looking forward to running against hem next year when he turns 50,last time I ran with hem was when he was in collage,I know the world record would have been brocken,I hope to do so indoor this year, but Im shore he would have done so,as m50 He may or may not remember me but it would have been a good M50 race, deff A PR run

Wolfie looked great clearing 4.30m (14′ 1 1/4) and had a couple of nice jumps at a new WR height of 14′ 7 1/2″ (4.45m). What a great guy to meet and hang out with.

I withdrew after warm up as not to reinjure my strained biceps, Kingstad was a no show, Hardison and Bentz nhd at 12′ 7 1/2″ (3.85m) and Murray Mead went 12′ 1 1/2″ (3.70m), as di M60 John Altendorf. A very pedestrian evening for the Americans. Bubba
