Masters announcer Pete Taylor recovering in hospital

Pete Taylor, our prime meet announcer, recently overcame cancer, but now he’s fighting the effects of what his brother and sister describe as a massive pulmonary embolism — a blood clot in the lung — on Jan. 21, 2005. He’s probably at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. but is expected to be discharged in a few days.

Pete’s sister, Phoebe Breskman, wrote me yesterday:
Dear Ken,
My brother Peter suffered a massive pulmonary embolism on January 21st. He is still in the hospital but will probably be discharged in the next few days. He will reestablish his track and field contacts when he is able in the next few weeks.
Pete’s brother, Sydney Campbell, wrote me today:
My brother, Peter Taylor, remains in the hospital after suffering a severe pulmonary embolus on 1/21/05. He will contact his track and field associates some time in mid February. Messages can be left at his employer – 301 650 8660. Or you can email me and I will pass on to Peter.
The phone number goes to the switchboard operator at his employer, Palladian Partners.
Please join me in sending him our best wishes.

    Peter,
I hope you realize just how important you are to so many of us in the Masters community. You are the VOICE of Master’s track; distinctive, so surprisingly knowledgeable, and incredibly generous. Anyone that’s run when you’ve been announcing appreciates hearing your introductions before the race and commentary during it. It inspires and motivates us. Sometimes it’s the only voice we hear when we run, and often the only public acknowledgement and recognition of what we do. But now Pete, it’s your turn to listen, to hear your name mentioned in our thoughts, prayers and well wishes. For you to realize just how much you mean to us, how much you are the Champion of the Championships. Now get well soon. Hey, not only for your sake, but for all of us too. We miss ya.
Hope to see ya/hear ya at Boise,
    Larry Barnum M61
