Bob Weiner savoring the Democrats’ return to power

Bob Weiner, chairman of the USATF Masters T&F media subcommittee, has been popping up all over Washington — in radio interviews, in press releases — now that his fellow Democrats are back in power. After eight years in the wilderness, Bob is ramping up his presence and the work of his PR agency.  Of course, Bob has long been active in the doping wars, and his latest blast piggybacked the news of A-Rod and his steroid confessions as a Texas Rangers superstar. Here’s a shot of Bob at the first Obama press conference February. 9 (I circled him in red). Now if only I can find masters track listed in the recently signed stimulus package. . . .

Here’s Bob with legendary newswoman Helen Thomas at the Obama parley.

hEY KEN STONE – THIS IS CHARLENE LANDRUM, WHO YOU WROTE A NASTY LITTLE BLURP ABOUT BACK IN 2006 IN RECORD TO MY BOGUS 60 METER HURDLE RECORD. I WORKED VERY HARD AT THAT TIME TO RUN THAT RECORD AND CONSIDERING I WAS NEVER A WORLD CLASS ATHLETE SUCH AS GAIL DEVERS NOR DID I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF HAVING GREAT COACHES, SPONSORS AND OTHER AIDS I WON’T EVEN BRING UP IN THE LETTER (SUPPLEMENTS), AND WAS WORKING 40 HOURS A WEEK AS A BOOKEEPER, I THINK I RAN PRETTY WELL. SO DO ME A FAVOR, GO PICK ON SOMEONE ELSE, AND LEAVE MY NAME OUT OF YOUR FREAKING ARTICLES,
    THANK YOU,
    CHARLENE LANDRUM

Charlene refers to a post of Jan. 26, 2006:

I apologize for labeling her 8.96 W35 American record in the 60 hurdles as “bogus” (in comparison to Gail Devers’ marks).
It was my clunky way of mocking USATF authorities who ignore legitimate marks that should be records.
I wish Charlene all the best!

Congratulations Bob. I read your article on doping and A-Rod and I agree with you that it sends the wrong message to youths. A-Rod said that he was young and stupid but he was 26 years old and that aint young. He said he wanted a burst of energy but to let a “cousin” inject you with something that you have no idea what it is for three year is just stupid. He should have tried redd bull or gateraid. And what about the other 102 who tested positive???!! That’s equal to all the players on the Dogers,Yankees,Cubs and White Sox combined. A cheat is a cheat. If he cheated then, he cheating now.

This must really be a slow time to be talking politics on a Track and field site, but I believe Obama and our Government have more pressing matters like taking to trial CEO’s, real estate companies, and banks that have bent this country over a barrel and in my opinion, still are…so what’s the big news we all can’t get enough of? A-Fraud and his steriod usage while playing a childs GAME. We all know what we think of steriod usage and these athletes will eventually pay the price when time to be elected into the Hall of Fame and their health as they age. As far as him being an being an example for children… parents and relatives need to be an example for children. Being an alcoholic also sends the wrong message to youths. How many alcoholics do we have in this country? We see regulary advertisements on T.V. for beer… people drinking beer, wine and booze in front of kids like it’s no problem. Nice example, heh?…What a romantic sports moment it was when Mickey Mantle at 64 years of age, died after his liver transplant in 1995 due to alcoholism…now THAT is an example of a true American hero… We’re such a nation of hipocrits. Let’s mercilously hound and see more of Bernie Madoff explaining himself on T.V. and some of these other big-wigs in the news who scammed investers out of everything without remorse. Let’s try him in court and throw away the key as an example to future investors and executives that Americans will not tolerate this type of behavior any more…As Obama see’s now, it’s not so easy being the President either, even just picking his staff. Have any Democrats he’s nominated paid their taxes? Hopefully, this country , as citizens, not just government, will kick itself in the ass and we all try to do the right things to get this nation back on track. Even if it’s something as small as being an example… to our children, grand children, neices, nephews or cousins on how to act responsibly and treat others in this society. Nice thought…but I’m not holding my breath on it…

Hi Nolan Shaheed, Thanks so much! We are all looking forward to your playing the National Anthem and other pieces at upcoming Indoor National Masters here in DC! You are a great ambassador for our sport–super runner, and what a background having played lead trumpet for Count Basie and Stevie Wonder and all. Looking forward to seeing you and all our colleagues here, and good luck setting more World and American records.
    Bob Weiner
