Devers out at open nationals; Tissenbaum a scratch, too
Too bad. Would have been nice to see how many kids ate Gail’s dust in the 60 hurdles. But IAAF reports: “The women’s 60m Hurdles should be dominated by 2004 Olympic gold medallist Joanna Hayes, and will be opposed by Danielle Carruthers, Nichole Denby and Jenny Adams…. Gail Devers, who is making her comeback after maternity leave and who Hayes beat in Millrose, has withdrawn from the championships in the last two days.” Gail, 39, has time to show her stuff later this season.
USATF reported Gail’s pullout this way:
“Olympic gold medalists Joanna Hayes and defending champion Danielle Carruthers in the women’s 60m hurdles. Gail Devers, rebounding from pregnancy, has opted not to compete in order to give herself more time to regain her fitness.”
A dropout is reported in the masters 200 at open nationals — the No. 1 sprinter in that M40 field. Dr. Allan Tissenbaum, who submitted a time of 22.34, is listed as having scratched. The No. 1 entrant in the W40 200 is Charlene Landrum, who submitted a time of 25.50. She’ll probably win easily.

Watch for Florida gal Damu Cherry who ran 7.83 last week in Clermont. Looks like she has the stuff to run with the field!
My Florida Girl got second ..close race..I knew she had the stuff. I really wish I could have seen her in a race with that included Devers! This girl has incedible form and quickness! Love that hurdle race. You go girl!!
My girl Joanna Hayes would have run a world leading time, I think. I was standing near the finish line when she got injured. Even though seh pulled coming off the last hurdle, she still ran a time fast enough to propel her into the finals (which she ultimately scratched).
The womens hurdles, and sprints in general, are deep.
Having siad that – I truy love watching Gail run. Hurry back, girl!
