Florida friends, be safe! Check in to let us know how you’re doing

Now is not the time to go for a wind-aided 100 PR in eastern Florida. Hurricane Matthew is blowing in, and folks in the evacuation zones have heard the warnings not to blow them off. I realize that the whole state isn’t at risk, but I still fear for our Gator geezer friends, including Joe Johnston, Gary Dixon, Dr. James Oglesby, Brian Hankerson, Bob Cahners, David Jones and Tom Sputo. Others have family in the at-risk areas. When you’re safe and dry, post a comment on your status.

Track training takes a back seat to safety this weekend. Let us know you are OK.

Checking in from Sarasota on the west coast of Florida. Schools are open and we’re have a bit of wind and not much rain. There has been a run on gas and some stations in are area are reporting outages. I imagine from alot of people evacuating to the west coast of Florida. All in all this coast dodged another one. Hoping we don’t get a “loop back” of Matthew. That could be very, very bad for the east coast.

From Gainesville… Go Gators. We are about 70 miles from the east coast, in North Florida. I closed the office for today in anticipation of a nasty day here. Fortunately the track has stayed further off the coast that the initial predictions. So, at least at 1PM, it is nothing but windy with a constant drizzle. However, friends around 40 miles east are reporting power out.

FYI, Throws and Jumps Coach Florida Track Club is putting on a sanctioned throws meet here in Gainesville at Fred Code Park, on 5 November. Hammer, weight, SW, javelin, shot and discus. You need a Florida vacation to get ready for the winter! We have other meets scheduled for this winter in Gainesville and Clermont. Go to the Throws Coach Florida website for more details.

I texted with Jim Griffin, FL master’s chair (east cost) and Joe Johnson (central FL near Orlando) and they are both safe and sound.
