IAAF taking WMA’s place as source of masters news?
Well, if it’s Tuesday it’s time to report another W45 world record for Merlene Ottey. This time, the news of her latest age-group astonishment comes via the IAAF. Merlene clocked a 23.82 for 200 meters Sunday at the 4th Athletics Bridge meet in Central Slovakia. The previous W45 record was Ottey’s own 23.97 from mid-June. Before Ottey, the longstanding W45 record was the pokey 25.56 by Phil Raschker in 1994 — a mark still listed on the WMA Web site.
Now for the hard-core stat.
On the WMA Age-Graded Tables, Ottey’s 23.82 corresponds to an Open (ages 20-30) equivalent of 20.909 seconds. Time for a redo of the tables.
Another way of looking at 23.82 — it might have made the final of the M45 200 a year ago at the San Sebastian world meet:

2. Thomas Riehm GER 22.77
