Kay Glynn’s 2010 Christmas card and news: indoor WR in vault!

Multi-eventer Kay Glynn, who incredibly is “57 a bit longer,” shares her latest Christmas shot. “Husband took this photo on a nice, sunny, no-wind morning Dec. 8 BUT it was 13 degrees!” she writes.  “I was just happy to get a Christmas photo without having to scoop 2 feet of snow first!  This morning we’re in a winter weather advisory and are advised to not travel as we’re on the edge of the big snow coming through the Midwest!  BTW, pole vaulting gurus keep telling us young pole vaulters to spend lots of time on the rings and bars. This isn’t really one of the pole vaulting drills, but I sometimes get sidetracked!”

Latest in a series of Kay doing the splits for Christmas. Take bets on age 93?

As almost an afterthought, Kay writes:

News Flash! Move forward 2 days to yesterday, Dec. 10. I broke my indoor world record of 2.92 in 07 at Boston with a 2.95 (9-8) jump at the Iowa State Cyclone Holiday Preview. (www.cyclones.com) I will rephrase that. I cleared the bar at that height and did all the paperwork (even have a video). Monday (after I make all my necessary copies) I will send it to the powers that be. At any rate, I felt like it was a good start for the opening season of the indoor! There were 13 girls competing in the PV—and me!

Congratulations to Kay; I hope she gets this record accepted. We should remember that in 2008 she broke the W55 world outdoor record in the pole vault at the Pacific Assoc. USATF championships in California, only to have it turned down by USATF Masters. That record should be approved immediately; if everything is in place for this record set in Iowa it should be approved as well.

And 4 kids call this lady “grandma”!?!

Congratulations, Kay. You’re an inspiration. Looking forward to seeing you at Worlds in Sacramento.

One of the many great things about Kay, is that if one record doesn’t get accepted, she can always set another one. Great girl!!

As always, Kay, you look fabulous in your new holiday greeting pic.

I recall watching in amazement at several meets this year as you did your warm-up routine. Your flexibility and acrobatic excellence were absolutely awe inspiring.

And, of course, being housed as roommates at the dorm in Sacramento was memorable, too. (Wups. Perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned that.)
