Landover, Maryland, to host 2013 USATF indoor masters nationals
A masters mole at the USATF annual meeting in Virginia Beach, Virginia, says Landover, Maryland, will again host the USATF Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships — in 2013. No word on bidders for 2013 masters outdoor nationals. That decision should be announced soon. In 2009, Landover hosted an indoor nationals beset by timing problems and results snafus. Since then, the executive committee has promised better oversight and stricter rules for local organizers. Hope this is so. The Landover meet was hosted in March 2009 by the Potomac Valley Track Club and directed by Craig Chasse, a masters distance runner and steepler. Anyone have any details on the outdoor nationals for 2013?

This is huge news. Landover (in 2009) had the largest attendance ever for our indoor masters. It has a flat track, but the meet drew like crazy, and we had many great races.
However, I remember Karl Smith, the Olympian, winning the M45 hurdles by daylight and being given a time of 12.12 (he was placed way back in the results). Eventually he was moved to first (time of 8.39, I believe).
This was indicative of the many problems experienced with the FAT. In fact, if memory serves, every single male hurdler below the M45 group was given NT (no time) after things were all straightened out.
Once the FAT problems are cleared up (and Landover will have 2 years and 3 months from today to get ready) we should be able to have a great meet at this site (in Prince George’s County, Maryland, right next to FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Redskins).
I don’t know of any hotels that are really close, and that could be an issue as well (believe something along these lines was raised by Mary Harada).
This Championship, 2013, will be hosted by the Maryland Association of USATF not the PVTC as in 2009
Actually it’s the Potomac Valley Association, in cooperation with the Maryland State Office of Sports Marketing. Meet hotels will have shuttle service to the venue.
Meet hotels had shuttle service to the venue last time – the problem was – no place to eat near those hotels – and the one I stayed in had a very poor restaurant. Without a car – one is condemned to eating expensive and poor quality hotel food -assuming the hotel has a restaurant or packing a really big lunch to last for 3 days.
I would not return to the hotel where I stayed before as the service was poor. The only other hotel in that area offered the typical “free” cold breakfast (unless you wanted the waffles made out of the box mix) . It did not have a restaurant. Renting a car is not an option for me.
I love this facility and at the same time hate the Track. This Track is Mondo laid on concrete without any ply board between the two–If you are a sprinter you may like this set up–but for anyone running more then the 400m it really sucks. There is zero response off the Track( completely dead) and the energy goes right down into the Track–but there was only one bidder, so I am glad that we will have a meet
I am so encouraged about having the 2013 Master’s National meet at the PGSLC in Landover, MD.
The facility is wonderful and the staff keep it up as if they owned it. I am very happy that I will compete at such a highly respected venue.
There should be many records challenged in 2013.

I am interested in competing in the 2013 Indoor Nationals but would like information on the following:
I’d like to take a TRAIN to Landover, vs. a taxi ($50.00+ tip). Can you tell me if there is a train that will get me to the site of the track meet??
Also, I want to stay at a good hotel near the track event…can you recommend one?
Thanks,
Barb
