Lane, O’Connor win treadmills for top age-graded marks
The essence of masters track? No matter how old you are, you hope to do better next season. Apparently that’s the philosophy of Trent Lane of Louisiana, who at age 96 has accepted shipment of a Champion-brand treadmill for having the highest male age-graded percentage at the Charlotte nationals. Meet director Gordon Edwards writes: “I called the amazing Trent and he wanted the treadmill. Nadine (O’Connor) won the treadmill for the best female.” For the record, Trent won for his M95 world-record hammer throw of 20.15 meters (66-1), which Gordon age-graded to 129.42 percent, and Nadine of California won for her meet-record vault of 3.00 (9-10), which he age-graded to 112.36 percent. (My calculations agree with Gordon’s for Nadine, but not for Trent, who scored higher, with a 139.27 percent.)
