Mark Cleary also a candidate for Masters T&F chair
In reply to an email inquiry tonight, Coach Mark Cleary of Orange County, California, said he is running for USATF Masters T&F chair at the Indy meeting in late November. In December 2004 at the Portland, Oregon, annual meeting of USATF, Mark ran for chair — and lost — to George Mathews, who won a second four-term. But George had no hard feelings about being challenged. He kept Mark on as chairman of Masters Invitational Program. Interestingly, Joy Upshaw Margerum now is trying to “beat her boss,” since Mark was in charge of the USATF Open indoor masters exhibition race last February in Boston, where Joy won the women’s 200. Another similarity: Joy is a longtime coach, too — and this summer guided U.S. women to a DecaNations victory in Paris. When all the candidates names are in, I’ll shoot ’em all a questionnaire.

I am glad to see Mark throwing his hat in the ring. He has done a great job running the invitational program over the past number of years ensuring top class masters races in USATF championships. Mark has displayed an ability to get masters races on the main agenda which has been a tough assignment. He has a strong coaching and running resume too. Good luck Mark.
I would like to point out that Mark is the right candidate because of his dedication and hard work. He has the dedication, experience and the talent needed to be a Master’s chairman. Good luck and best wishs Mark
