Masters rock Cleveland: Mike Soule’s group performs at club
Doug “Bubba” Sparks and others have shared this photo of Mike Soule’s vaulter-based rock group performing Friday night at nationals. Bubba writes: “Had a great crowd at Tony Ks for the geezer band. Bass is Mike Soule/vocals (M55 PV), Bob Banhagel/vocals on guitar, John Large on drums/vocals – both M60 PV. Don’t know the alternate lead singer or the harmonica guy. They were VERY good!” Black-and-red clapping guy appears to be Britain’s Eric Jones, an M65 sprinter/runner affiliated with the SoCal Track Club. Although results are posted on the official USATF site, USATF marketing intern Jeremy Langton sent me this all-in-one file of Day 1 and Day 2 results.
Meanwhile, we got these shots from Doug and other entrants:
Bubba says of the photo below: “Joe/Janet Johnston, Kay Glenn, Gary Hunter, Karen Reiger, Howard Booth, Dinah Anderson, Helen Croskell, Don Curry (M50 PV who turned 55 today and got a birthday song from the band and crowd) and many other non-vaulters.”
Meanwhile, Kay Glynn writes: “Happened to catch 15 of the 17 competitors in the women’s pentathlon. Having a good time. Weather has been been doable except for a couple downpours! Got first in pen.PV,LJ,80H, but highlight of the meet could still be the “USATF pole vaulting-based band” (don’t think they have a name yet!) that performed for us tonight as they allowed us in their “jam session” at Tony Ks Bar and Restaurant. Great time and music with an appreciative audience! I’m sure you’ll get a few photos from that!”

The PV band was great! You guys are clever, come up with a catchy name so the group can stay together for next year. It was a really fun eve with good company, good music and food. Please add this event permanently.

I heard from several that the “concert” was great.
