Names sought for Senior Olympics story in U-T San Diego

U-T San Diego, which used to be known as The San Diego Union-Tribune, aims to feature some entrants in the upcoming San Diego Senior Games. Rather than reads minds, I’d like your help in identifying athletes with interesting stories who might not be familiar to U-T readers. (Sorry, Rita and Nadine.) If you’re entering the Sept. 22 meet at San Diego Mesa College, send me your name and phone number. (Write me privately at TrackCEO@aol.com.) Meanwhile, our friend Doug Smith shares some info on the meet, which won’t be held this year at seaside Point Loma Nazarene University.

Mesa College is home of the Olympians. (That’s the school mascot name.).

Doug writes:

Because of a conflict with the school’s athletic schedule, this track meet cannot be held at Point Loma this year. The new venue is San Diego Mesa College. My college roommate, classmate and teammate, Jim Cerveny,

(pronounced Sir-VA-nee) is the Meet Director. Athletes can access the website below, register online, plus, see the schedule of events.

Meet date: Saturday, September 22nd.

The contact person for this meet is  Gary MacDonald:  coachmac@cox.net    Cell: (619) 850-9427

Please make certain that everyone knows that for all running and jumping events, plus the javelin, this college only allows 3/16” pyramid spikes at their facility. Please bring your own 3/16” pyramid spikes.

Registration is now up at  www.sdseniorgames.org.  Information on events, time schedule (it may change a little depending on the number of participants), spike size (3/16 pyramid only for all running, jumping, javelin events), parking is free on campus, just follow the signs on campus located east of the stadium.

Starting time is 9am field events and 9:30am for the track events (just check the schedule).

Access the above listed website for all who are interested in entering. It’s a great T&F facility.

Looks like they have upgraded the facility from when I competed there last. Based on the photo looks like a very nice facility.
