Russian claims M60 world record in high jump at Eurovets
Milers may dispute this, but I think 2012 may become known as Year of the High Jumper in masters track. Latest evidence was posted on the Eurovets website: “Vladimir Kuntsevich from Russia jumped to a new world record [last] Monday morning [at the just-ended European masters championships]. The Russian athlete practiced in High Jump (age group M60) and jumped 1.81 meters [5-11 1/4] high. Kuntsevich began his competition with 1.40 meters [4-7] and jumped all highs in the first try also 1.81 meters. The old record (1.80) was jumped by Thomas Zacharias from Germany in 2007. The second place went to Alexander Grishaev (RUS) and Jan Huijbers from the Netherlands won bronze.” See his straddle from early 2011.

Not the only WR at the recent European Vets Champs either. Slovakia’s Vladimir Vybostok ran a 12.37 for the M65 100m .

I missed this jump… I saw another straddler who also did a curved run up. Clever!

Weia, somehow check the W 65 hammer result, 16.77 m
would not come close to the WR…
I even threw further yesterday…. lighter hammer though (and I never throw hammer, ha-ha)
Do you mean the WT throw?

Just saw the video, it’s the WT throw,
and a very good one!

When it rains, it pours. American record holder Tom Langenfeld reports from Minnesota:
There was also a world record in the M75 high jump at the European championships. Sweden’s Carl-Erik Sarndal, the M70 world record holder (1.59), turned 75 on July 17, and I was certain he would break the existing M75 record (1.44) in Zittau. The only question was by how much. The answer: 3 cms. He won by 21 (8¼ inches) with 1.47 (4’9¾”). http://www.fidalservizi.it/risultati/evacs2012/Day1391.htm

To watch Kuntsevich’s “pre-approach” shuffle and the first 5 steps of his actual 7-step approach, one could be fooled into thinking that nothing good is going to happen….but those last 2 steps are all business baby. This dude has some serious power left in those legs and although I’m not qualified to critique straddle jumps, his technique sure looks awesome to me!

Oh, and I love the Warcry he lets out as he clears the bar!! I may have to adopt that.

He is a great jumper. Btw. Some straddle jumpers adopt the curved run up because frequently there isnt enough space to do the classical straddle run up. It is not clear whether the flop type run up is any better for straddlers than the straight run up.
Weia Reinboud - August 28, 2012
I think the curve gives additional rotation, also for straddlers.

Maybe I should try the straddle… Broke Canadian
high jump with 1.13m last weekend during the BC
Senior games.
I also broke the triple jump world record with 7.91m , wind at 0.5.

Probably you saw the video of this record jump of Kuntsevich:

Ventsi, thanks for the link to the record jump! Did you happen to notice that the same person who posted that video on YouTube also posted what appears to be the next generation of Kuntsevich straddler? It is a 15 year-old (Philipp K.) jumping 1.73 straddle style!!
