Nearman leads Boston drive for our gifted announcer

Last August, M45 runner Steve Nearman announced a drive to help pay Peter Taylor’s way to the Spokane masters outdoor nationals in 2008. Today he has great news: Mission accomplished. Spokane meet organizers have agreed to include Taylor, our longtime meet announcer, in its budget. Steve writes: “Spokane saw the importance of Peter and the support from people who responded that the organizers put money in the budget to get Taylor out there to announce the meet.”

Recently, Steve says, organizers of the March 2008 indoor nationals in Boston contacted him to “see if we could raise $500 to get Taylor to Boston for the weekend because of the increased expenses of the Boston facility and other costs. I said I would try. I went back to the people who committed to Spokane . . . and we have raised $250 in the past couple of days.”
So here is Steve’s new appeal:

If there is anybody else who would like to contribute to the Pete Taylor Fund, let me know by email at steve@nearmanfinancial.com or phone 703-683-4660. We all benefit from Peter calling our events so it wouldn’t hurt to offer $10, $25, $50 toward paying his expenses and possibly a small stipend for him for giving up a three-day weekend to all of us. . . . I’d love to see the masses of masters track show Peter some love here and give him the support that professional sports give their announcers and commentators.

Great work, Steve. I hope other masters join me in defraying costs for the hardest working gentleman at masters nationals.
Steve says checks can be sent for the Pete Taylor Fund — payable to Steve Nearman — to: 1005 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. (And he’s trustworthy with other people’s money, since that’s what he does for a living.)
