O’Driscoll is top masters miler on Fifth Avenue
Charlotte nationals champ Conor O’Driscoll of Rye, New York, was the fastest over-40 miler yesterday at the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City, clocking 4:26 on the asphalt course. At age 45, Conor won his age group and also finished a second faster than the M40 group winner, Peter Hegelbach of Boulder, Colorado. Other great times were recorded by Alston Brown, 57, of Mt. Vernon, New York, who ran 4:51; Sid Howard, 67, of Plainfield New Jersey, winner of M65 in 5:47; and W60 winner Marie-Louise Michelsohn of Stony Brook, New York, who ran 6:15 at age 64. The oldest female finisher was Lucile Singleton of NYC, whose 16:32 was OK at at 83. More impressive was the 9:56 by 80-year-old Joan Rowland of NYC. The oldest male finisher was David Gerli of NYC, who clocked 18:58 — at age 95. He’s the REAL winner.

Lost and Found
This is probably not the right place to post this but in Charlotte toward the end of the meet, I found a Kodak 32MB SD photo memory stick in the grass around the awards area. Looks like it was from an east coast distance runner. Email me at nctrackfield1957@yahoo.com, identify a picture or two, and I’ll be happy to mail it to you.
