Puerto Rican honchos help secure host city of 2010 WMA regionals
Brian Keaveney, president of the WMA region that includes the United States, has announced that Puerto Rico is officially the host of the North, Central and Caribbean World Masters Athletics Championships this fall. Brian wrote various officials: “The championship in Mayaguez is confirmed.” The story behind this is dramatic and convoluted. I know only a piece of it. But apparently it took schmoozing by Puerto Rican WMA delegate Melton Diaz, an M60 thrower, to make this happen. Melton met with a Puerto Rican senator and also secured a letter of support from the mayor of Mayaguez. As telegraphed earlier, the meet is set for September 3-6. Haven’t seen a meet website yet.

Have a great trip those who can make it to Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, lack of finances for a flight there and the timing won’t allow me to make it.
Mellow:Miami are to Aguadilla on Spirit Airlines run from $29.00-39.00 OW,then rent a car or take a bus to Mayaguez-30min trip
Not good timing – Labor Day weekend – and given how Spirit Airlines is just abandoning its booked passengers while the pilots are on strike – it is the last airline I would fly to anywhere.
Maybe next time!!!!!!
This track thing can be expensive, so usually the best are left at home.

If the pilots return to work, it still only solves part of my issue, unfortunately. That weekend is still booked already for me (Labor Day weekend as Mary pointed out). I also still have to get to Miami from the West Coast which likely wouldn’t be within my budget anyway.

Hey Guys the schedule is being worked out and a webpage should be up in the next week or two. Also our Masters National Championships are on July 10th in Ponce, where we host our Big international Grand Prix meet! All are welcome!
I ran in the NCCWMA meet in Dorado. It was a great meet, from the opening ceremonies to the warm hospitality of the Puerto Rican’s to the closing ceremonies. I look forward to the same experience.

I hit Puerto Rico for a 10K AND COULD NOT MOVE. The humisingaditty was AWFUL. The locals were sprinting the 10K. One cat flew by me wearing shower shoes. Spiderman blew me away. Puerto Rico? Hit the beach, enjoy the drinks, and the “view”.(^_^). Smartty

I had a great time at the World Championships in San Juan. The throwing facility and conditions were among the best I’ve ever seen (constant warm quartering wind). The food and the people were terrific.
We should have a small group all meeting in San Juan and will carpool to location. Looks like we will book one of those nice beach houses.

Don and everyone interested it’s official the meet is on and the entry page should be up on the WMA website ASAP. I hope everyone who can come will it should be a great meet only if the athlete’s come!!

As stated earlier in an email sent a few days ago, that my mom is from Puerto Rico and she would be coming to watch me run. Could I run for Puerto Rico and if so how can I go about signing up? It would be a great thrill for for her and my aunts, uncles and cousins there.
