What ever happened to the ‘track meet in a box’?

On our forum today, San Seb silver medalist Tony Echeandia wrote: “I am thinking of hosting a masters meet in either Icahn Stadium in New York or Estadio Francisco Paquito Montaner in Puerto Rico in June or July. Both tracks are super fast and meets at both locations are well run.” The meet would serve as a tuneup for nationals in Maine and worlds in Italy. I replied by suggesting he contact his local USATF association. But I also vaguely recall that someone in masters track once spoke of preparing a kit that included all the paperwork and advice for putting on a meet — a “track meet in a box.” Does anyone know if that kit ever got created? Does USATF have a Meet Director School? (Later update: Uh yes, Ken, you wrote about this just last March.)

Sorry- for some reason I can’t get the whole link to copy. Go USATF.org and move your cursor to the far right tab where it says read “Resources For…”, then click on “Event Directors”. Then, from the left sidebar, click on “How to Organize an Event”, then click the Masters Manual line. Good luck!

That would be great – and I would “vote” for NY – my bet is that it might attract more competitors as some of us are saving our money for Maine and Italy and one needs a plane ticket for PR, my car cannot swim!

    Ken,
Has the final decision been made for the 2007 Indoor Nationals? I’m still smartin’ from the Armory not being able to take it on (my backyard), but we move on right?

In Boston at Reggie Lewis March 23-25, and I believe that the NE Association is not bidding for 2008 etc. Some other place needs to step up to the plate and make a realistic and responsible bid in a decent venue with sufficient financial backing and a staff that is competent and able to put on a good meet. I guess that will narrow the field !

Tony I also encourage you to place the meet in NYC, preferably in July.

New England had the championship award for 2008 already when it accepted the 2007 meet.
    So it’s 2007-2008 in Boston.
We will not be bidding for 2009 or 2010.
