Avalanche of results posted from Rocky Mountain Masters Games

Meet director Jim Weed

Sue Norton of the Rocky Mountain Masters Games and Colorado Masters Track Club graciously sent results from last weekend’s two-day meet at Colorado State University in nosebleed Fort Collins. See results here. They confirm a 25.83 for Don Neidig in the 200 — short of the M65 world record but still sensational. Plus an exceptional 12.51 in the 100. Not bad for age 66. I count 33 discus throwers, including 90-year-old Ralph Maxwell. So the 5,000-foot elevation must have made CSU a throwers mecca? And Iowa’s Kay Glynn got her money’s worth, completing 10 events. Kay wrote me: “By the time I got to the 300H, it was slightly ugly!” Kay ugly? No way.

W55 Kay Glynn (right) posed with Christel Donley, whose shoulder surgery couldn't keep her away from meet and her officiating chores.

Collins. Wow, fond memories. I was enrolled when it was Colorado A&M. Aggies. 1951. I was there on a track scholarship. Could hardly walk, much less run, so I made the yell team. It’s way too large now. Old Town today was the ONLY town in the 1950s. I had a blast ‘girlin’. Smartty

Actually, altitude hurts the discus. It just seems that everybody thinks they can do it, so it’s not unusual to see a lot of entrants.

12.51/25.83 at age 66? Those are my times at age 43…wow!
