Weia Reinboud notches 10th world record as masters flopper
Weia Reinboud should clone herself. (Actually, she already has — as the photo below shows.) Yesterday she closed her season at a small town in her native Holland by clearing 1.47 meters (4-9 3/4) on her first try — bettering her own W60 world record of 1.45. That’s her 10th world age-group record in three age groups (seven outdoor and three indoor). But she called the finale “a quite bizarre closing of the summer season.”
Weia wrote me yesterday:
Thursday: Inscribed for a meet on friday in a small town. Last chance to throw the 400g spear. Added high jump because the season is not really good.
Friday morning:I heard that I could jump in the open class interclub competition on Sunday because of an injury of one of my pupils.
Friday evening: the meet. Bad throwing (32m), bad jumping (1.39). Cold (14 degrees centigrade, or 57 degrees Fahrenheit) and a bit of rain.
Sunday: Preparation did not feel good, not warm (17 centigrades), much wind (4-7 m/sec), thought of not jumping after preparation.
Prescribed heights (were) 1.30, 1.40, 1.45, 1.50. Had to jump the 1.40 because otherwise it would have been the worst jump of my life, which inevitable will come one day, but not today please. Jumped 1.30, 1.40 and 1.45 in first attempt! Equaled my own world record W60! Then I asked for an extra height of 1.47 only for me, again first attempt!
At 1.50 it was over, but the third attempt was a near miss. The bar at 1.49 wouldn’t have fallen down.
This day makes my season excellent.

Well done, The reward for hard work.
Ken, d’you know who the photographer was?
That picture is of 10 years ago. Ten centimetres lower in ten years is not bad. The picture is photoshop work by me of a videoclip shot with my camera by a colleague high jumper.
My technique is better now, but is not improved enough…
Well done Weia, congratulations, what a grand finale to what seemed like a bad day.
Congratulations, Weia!!!
Oh lala! 1.47!!!
I (M55) can do 1.47 only with “Fierljeppen”, maybe…
