Masters photos posted for USATF team cross country nationals

Lyudmila Vasilyeva wins the W40 race.

Cheryl Treworgy, a great photographer who happens to be Shalane Flanagan’s mom, has posted hundreds of great shots from the weekend’s USATF national club cross country nationals. Meet was held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Results are here. Many track stars are shown. See the men’s gallery here. See the women’s gallery here. National Masters News reports via email that “Club Northwest’s Lyudmila Vasilyeva, 41, scored a nine second win over Lori Kingsley, 44, of the Willow Street AC, covering the 6k cross course in 21:38.7 to Kingsley’s 21:47.1.” And the top masters men’s runner “was M45 winner Peter Magill, 49, Compex Racing, covering 10k in 32:36.0. Second was his Compex Racing teammate and M40, winner, Christian Cushing-Murray, 43, who ran 32:47.8.”

Magill. Impressive. He always has been though, but just keeps adding to his legend.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a WR or two in the 50-54 falls next year to him, and a few more AR’s

Agree with Matt B. For a 49-year-old like Pete Magill to average 5:14.8 per mile over 10,000 meters is remarkable, to say the least. Many others were impressive as well. I couldn’t help but notice, for example, that Rick Becker at age 56 averaged 5:32.2 per mile (time of 34:24.0).

Now, if we can get Pete, Rick, Christian, and a few of the other stalwarts to run the mile and 3000 in Albuquerque in early March, that would be something. Regular entries close in just 55 days.

Possibly missed in the results is 46 year old former South African elite, Colleen De Reuck, running in the open women’s race and running almost 20 seconds faster than the masters winner. I didn’t notice any M40+ attempting to run with the open men.

Rumor was that Colleen De Reuck missed the race as her shuttle bus from hotel to race site was caught in traffic jam due to a marathon being run in downtown Charlotte and arrived at the x-c park after the women’s race started.
