Allen Woodard takes huge chunk out of own M45 WR for 400
A year ago, when Allen Woodard became the oldest man to run sub-50 in the 400 with his 49.69 at age 46, he talked about going sub-49. Over the weekend, he nearly did. At the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Allen (now 47) clocked 49.12 against the kiddies. (See results here.) A couple weeks ago, he tied his M45 WR with a 49.69 at a Rice meet in his hometown of Houston. Stay tuned for more details.

Congrats Allen. It has always been my goal at 40 to run a sub-50 400 which to me means 49.99 seconds. He already ran 49.69 last year for the M45 World Record and now this year at age 47 tied the WR. Then he not only breaks his own record but is pushing 48! Wow. Truly phenomenal. What will he do for an encore?

Tremendous performance! Look forward to sub 49.
Very few break records in respective age groups past the first year. Ralph Romain was the oldest record setter in a 5 year age group at 63; one of the greatest master’s 400 meter performances ever, with a 53.88 !
I don’t necessarily agree with most performance % after age 75, they seem a bit skewed, those should be closer to 98% at best, but then the age 36 record by Chris Brown as remarkable as it is, probably is a 98-99% performance as well. Good chance he improves that mark at age 37 this year.

40 47.81 96.59%
