Awaiting first claimant of masters world record in the monkey run

Kenichi Ito has lowered his own world record in the 100 at age 32. You may not have heard of this Japanese gent because his event is running on all fours – monkey style. This month at Komazawa Olympic Park Athletic Field in Tokyo, he covered the distance in 15.71 seconds. “According to The Telegraph, Ito beat his own record of 15.86 seconds that he set the year before,” said one of many reports. So now I have a goal: never let the monkey run 100 get faster than my two-legged PR. Watch me take this back in about five years. Who will be first M35 to go hands and feet for 100 meters?

    Slow news day, Ken?

I agree with Tom. A very slow news day.
Kenichi must be desperate for attention.
The big question is why is there a world record for an event that most people abandon as soon as they are old enough to walk?

If Kenichi could find 3 other “monkey runners” he could form a relay team. Rather than pass the baton around the track they could pass the banana around the track and set another world record. He should make sure these other runners are not from the US national team or they could “drop the banana” and be disqualified.

I think that the relay idea has great merit. You could hold a monkey run relay meet. I can imagine as many as a dozen spectators attending.

Sorry Ken. I misread the lead in … I thought you were stating there was a Masters division for animals competing.
I thinks I need some coffee

Same from our house to yours:
    Happy Thanksgiving!!

Oh, and don’t dare to submit a record form!
No FAT – ONLY ONE dummy”

But one can always learn something good from something stupid: don’t use your thumb to start/ stop the stopwatch, index finger is what we learned!

Ken, the “guy” has a mouth?! in this case, a banana would be better, as suggested.

No matter what, this is still better than any tragedy report!

Before giving Kenichi a hard time, I suggest everyone check out YouTube videos of the World Eskimo Olympics. I photographed the competition in Fairbanks about 25 years ago. Some of the events were…well, challenging. My favorites were the Ear Pull and the Knuckle Hop.
