Canadian TV featuring 3 Southern California masters track stars

Doug Smith reports that a Canadian TV station has started showcasing three California masters tracksters. Doug writes, and quotes director Genevieve Brault: “Our ‘109’ episode on Masters Athletes will air next week on RDI (Réseau de l’information) in Canada. The episode is called “Médaillés d’âge d’or” (Golden Age Medalist) and will air according to the following schedule: Saturday, Sept. 25th at 7:30 pm. Sunday, Sept. 26th at 11:30 am. Re-run on Christmas day! December 25th at 7:30 pm. The story will air this weekend (see details below) on a RDI (French language CBC) TV series “109” in Canada.”

Johnnie, Sumi and Tom get the French treatment on Canadian show.

The report continued:

After the TV broadcast this weekend, it can be viewed (and downloaded) via the Web. The director wanted to shoot outside. I tracked down three Americans who were profiled in California before coming to the meet in Kamloops. Johnnie Valien, Tom Patsalis and Sumi Onodera-Leonard.” The full episode will be available on our website. That way, people from the US who are featured in the piece will be able to check it out too!

And more good news — from German director Jan Tenhaven, who writes:

Greetings from Berlin!

In May this year you have been so kind to promote and attend the premiere of my film “Autumn Gold” at the Hot Docs film festival.

Now the film is coming back to Toronto!

“Autumn Gold” will open the festival on Thursday, September 30, 2010, 7:00 pm, Bloor Cinema

Continuing thanks, Ken, for your many contributions. Most of us would be hard put to do 2 of these postings a month; you do 1 or more a day.

Minor correction: That would be Johnnye Valien, yes?

Wow, I can even read that much french, the trio is
    great, may everybody stay healthy.
“Baby Sumi”, did you ever expect to have that name attached to you?

And Tom, we used to be team mates, when Corona Del Mar Track Club still existed. You still are a great
    dancer!

Not to forget Johnneye, who still teaches us how to pose “ladylike” for photos!!

    Nothing but good wishes!

What a great documentary film and what stars! Not only the 3 from So Cal but the remarkable throws man, Emil Muller! I wish I understood French. Fortunately my wife Jodi translated some of it for me.

Well worth watching even with the French commentary, since there’s enough of their English words in brief interviews to inspire anyone. All of the athletes shown competing and training, as well as those featured, are amazing! They are brimming with spirit and energy!
