Daddy Bush, wife have honorary roles at National Senior Olympics
Interesting report from NSGA:. “We are thrilled to announce that President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush have agreed to serve as honorary chairs of the 2011 Summer National Senior Games presented by Humana in Houston on June 16-30. ‘The Bushes embody the spirit the National Senior Games celebrates — two individuals who have remained very active well into their 80s and who are seen regularly around Houston,’ Dan Wolterman, chairman of the Houston Local Organizing Committee, said. ‘We feel privileged President and Mrs. Bush agreed to serve as the Honorary Chairs for the 2011 National Senior Games.’ ” I wonder: What can Poppa do in the 100?

Ken, the great Rod Parker still holds the M85 American record in the 100 at 16.22 seconds. I would guess that Pres. George H.W. Bush (born in 1924, making him 86 at present) can run about 63 seconds in the 100 right now.
The younger Pres. Bush, now 64, used to be a good runner but has been stymied by injury. I am guessing he could run about a 20.0 in the 100. But what do I know? I do know it will be hot at this meet and that many of the sprinters will be first-rate, including Oscar Peyton, who has promised to be there.
I saw the older President Bush at Barnacle Billy’s restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, last month. He’s there a lot — sometimes with Bill Clinton (there are pictures of them on the wall). He comes over from Kennebunk in his speedboat. He could probably run under 30 seconds for 100 easily.
