Aarhus on map.

Don’t look now, but the best masters track meet this summer has started in Denmark. It’s the European Masters Athletics Championships, aka WMA regionals. Well, do look. The folks in Aarhus are likely to be your competition at 2018 worlds in Malaga, Spain. The meet continues through Aug. 6, with the sked here. They have an Instagram account and a Facebook feed. Oh, did I forget something? Results are being posted here, including Day 1 of the decathlon featuring M90 Karri Wichmann of Finland — shooting for Ralph Maxwell’s WR of 7009 points.

The suspense is over. Day 2 of the decathlon is now posted and the late, great Ralph Maxwell’s decathlon record is safe for another year.

Karri Wichmann’s 2641 point ten event total fell a bit short of the Maxwell 7069 record point total.

The second highest score ever for the 90-94 group remains the 3190 of the prior record holder, Vic Younger of Austria in 2003.

Maxwell’s 7069 appears to be a record for the ages.

It will be interesting to compare the results of the NCCWMA meet in Toronto with EMACS meet.

It will be humbling to compare the results of the NCCWMA meet in Toronto with EMACS meet.

I only hope that by the time I can afford to retire I will be healthy enough to travel the US and Europe in the summer months, competing in the Pole Vault, Decathlon (or it’s individual events), and hurdles!
