San Diego lands 2017 USA Masters Games, with meet at OTC
Finally, a major meet in my back yard! On Thursday I posted details of the USA Masters Games on Times of San Diego. The overall festival of two dozen sports will be held in mid-July, but soccer and track will be held in late June — at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista — to avoid conflicts with Baton Rouge masters nationals. The USA Masters Games will be USATF-sanctioned, and our friend Willie Banks will chair a committee (and plans to compete as well.) Did you attend the inaugural USA Masters Games in Greensboro this past July? How did it go? My dream is that San Diego’s David Pain, now 94, will be able to see his local affair — and appreciate what his efforts spawned.

Ken’s story states June 23-25, 2017 in Chula Vista. I would assume that is tentative dates.
June 6-11, 2017 is the Senior Games in Alabama
Chuck McMahon Masters ,June 24 2017 San Diego.
Love this in my backyard.
Masters West Region meet depends on availability of facilities… usually it’s June also.
And there is also the Southern Calif.open And the San Diego open meets usually near the same time.
Wonderful, a masters meet in one of my most favorite places, San Diego. The,temps will be better than in Birmingham, Ala. (I lived there for 2 years in the late 50’s) so I know what the temperature and humidity will be). And Baton Rouge will be similar in terms of climate. I will have no excuses in terms of blaming the climate for my painfully slow times. OTOH I can drown my sorrows with great craft beer along with wonderful fish tacos. And some of my family could be there to urge me to just pick up my feet and get moving!
The inaugural USA Masters Games in Greensboro were outstanding. Relaxed and fun. Plus how often do you get to see Masters diving and figure skating?
Any update on dates would be much appreciated. This is the same weekend as the Outdoor Dec/Hep Nationals in Slippery Rock, PA

In 2017 it seems the summer is very much “frontloaded” with the big meets. What about Aug/Sep? Why are big meets all squeezing into June/July?
In response to a query today (April 6, 2018): CEO Hill Carrow of USA Masters Games said the event “won’t be returning to San Diego (in 2018), but will be able to share info on it later this month.”
Stay tuned.
