Journalism student’s video focuses on Senior Olympics (and me)

A few months back, I began corresponding with Julia Perez, a journalism student at San Diego State University. Her multimedia project was the San Diego Senior Olympics. She needed a subject. Tag, I’m it. With a photographer friend, she met me at my regular training venue, Cuyamaca College, in Rancho San Diego (east of San Diego) and taped an interview. She also shot me stretching, doing drills and taking starts. I cringe at my form, but hey — I took one for the team. In any case, she shrank an hour of tape down to 2 1/2 minutes. Nice work. Here’s her class site.

Ken, you and Julia both did great work here. Well done! How did it feel being on the other side of the interview for a change? Looked like it was a lot of fun :-).

Ken, Is it OK with you to post the video to the SD Senior Olympics facebook page?

Good interview Ken but she should have gotten a shot of you going over a hurdle.I Like what you said about hurdling. It brings back memories of when I did it in High School also.

Ken, I liked seeing the warmup and drills that you do. Very instructive. The idea of putting a cushion (looks like warmup pants) under your knee when in the starting blocks would work for my bad knee. Is that legal in a meet?

Pat, thanks for posting video on FB! Sharing is caring.

Burr, I don’t know of any rule that says you can’t cushion your down knee in the blocks. I’m just sensitive to hard tracks.

And Tom, I agree a hurdle shot would have been nice. But a live clip of me hurdling might have caused USATF to sue me for acts unbecoming of a member.

You emphasized the whole philosophy of masters and Senior Olympics…keep moving! More people need to hear that and realize that getting older doesn’t mean vegetating. Keep up the good work! You are carrying on by example of David’s intent of the masters. Thanks!
