Germany’s Guido MĂĽller goes sub-50 in 300 hurdles at age 75!
German masters nationals were held in Erfurt, and two world records are reported. One by old reliable Guido MĂĽller takes my breath away. At age 75, he ran the 300-meter hurdles in 49.65. That crushed the listed WR of 52.91 by Canada’s Earl Fee in 2005. On the Age-Graded Tables, Guido’s time is worth 44.34 […]

Carol Finsrud W35 discus record beaten at last (or yet again)?
Hall of Famer Carol Finsrud, now 57, has set American records in the discus in every age group she’s been in since 1992, when she was 36. She holds ARs in W35, W40, W45, W50 and W55. Quite a run. But Sunday at the USA nationals in Sacramento, 35-year-old Gia Lewis–Smallwood won a national title […]

Diane Cummins is threat to Podko’s W40 WR for 800 meters
I really want Diane Cummins to break the W40 world record for 800. Why? Her name is so much easier to type than Yekaterina Podkopayeva, the listed WR holder from Russia. (That’s why I generally write Podko for short.) Diane showed her fitness Thursday night at the Oxy elite meet in Los Angeles, when she […]

Bahamas’ Chris Brown claims M35 indoor WR for 400 meters
At the same meet in Glasgow that 39-year-old Bernard Lagat won the 3000 in 7:49.83, another M35 quietly crushed the listed indoor WR in the 400. Chris Brown of the Bahamas clocked 45.93, which beats the 47.45 of France’s Pierre-Mariew Hilaire in 2001. But given the sausage factory that is masters track record-keeping, who know […]

World indoor records for Germans Guido MĂĽller, Lidia Zentner
Beating your age in the 400 is tough. How about running 12 seconds faster than your age? Masters legend Guido MĂĽller did it Saturday at the 25th LAC Quelle Fuerth masters meet in Bavaria, where results show he clocked 63.34 at age 75. He thus beat Bob Lida’s listed M75 world indoor record of 63.90 […]

Margaret Peters claims W80 WR for 200 meters at Oceania meet
World champion Margaret Peters of New Zealand won the 60 (into a stiff wind), 100 and 200 at the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships in Bendigo, Australia, and may have been disappointed in her 19.2 hand-time for the 1. She made up for it Saturday, however, by blasting a 10-year-old W80 world record for the deuce. […]
